Kenya to Host 2020 IAAF World U-20 Championships After Successfully Hosting World U-18 Championships Last Year

By Adam Kopet

The IAAF announced Thursday that the 2020 IAAF World U-20 Championships will be held July 7-12 in Nairobi, Kenya.

It marks the first time in the 18 editions of the meet that the competition will be hosted by an African nation. The past two meets were held in Finland and Poland, marking the eighth and ninth occasions that Europe was the host continent.

Kenya previously hosted the 2017 IAAF World U-18 Championships, marking the second time an African nation hosted that event, including Morocco in 2005. That competition regularly attracted 60,000 spectators each day.

It should be noted that Team USATF did not participate in the 2017 IAAF World U-18 Championships due to security concerns.
