INDIANAPOLIS — Eighty athletes have been named to the team that will represent the United States at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, from July 19-24.

The athletes qualified to compete on the world stage based on their performances at the USATF Junior Championships from June 24-26 in Clovis, California. Headlining the field are some competitors who also appeared at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field in Eugene, Oregon. The IAAF World U20 Championships are previously known as the IAAF World Junior Championships before undergoing a rebranding heading into 2016.

Noah Lyles (Alexandria, Virginia) and Michael Norman (Murrieta, California) both head into the World U20 Championships after strong showings at Olympic Trials. In the 200m final, Lyles finished in fourth and Norman in fifth. With Lyles’ time of 20.09, he set the American junior and high school men’s 200m records. Norman equaled the third fastest high school time ever in 20.14. At the World U20 Championships, Norman will compete in the 200m, while Lyles will race in the 100m.

Christina Aragon (Billings, Montana) raced at Olympic Trials in the 1500m and advanced to the semi-finals. Kate Murphy (Burke, Virginia) also qualified for the semifinals in the same event at Trials, and in June she recorded the third fastest high school 1500m in history at the adidas Boost Boston Games.

Another 1500m runner, Alexa Efraimson (Camas, Washington), finished ahead of Aragon and Murphy in the semifinals to advance to the final, where she placed sixth. All three will represent Team USA in Poland later this month, but Murphy will race in the 3000m.

Candace Hill (Conyers, Georgia), who turned professional as a 16 year old, raced in the 100m and 200m semifinals at the U.S. Olympic Trials and will compete in the 100m at World U20 Championships. Hill was the first high school girl to break the 11-second barrier in the 100m. Wil London (Waco, Texas), another athlete who will compete in Bydgoszcz, competed in the 400m semifinal at Trials, but did not move on to the final.

Tia Jones (Marietta, Georgia), who will race in the 100m hurdles at World U20 Championships, recently became the best youth athlete of all time in the event after she ran a 12.84 at USATF Juniors.
