Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain has four of the six fastest times this year and plenty of international competition.  She may not be the fastest in the world this year but she has performed under pressure and run an 11.14 Brittish junior record.  Last year she won the European Junior 200 title and she was 7th in the 200 at the 2012 World Junior meet.  16 year-old Kaylin Whitney put it together the first weekend of July in Eugene with a US high school record of 11.10 (#5 US Junior all-time) and then set a world youth best and high school record in the 200 by running a shocking 22.49.  Repeating that here will be difficult although Whitney looks like she could be the next sprint superstar and this could be the first of many battles between these two potential superstars.  

Ariana Washington (11.22) continued her progress this year and won another pair of California titles.  She has had success on the international level after competing in the World Youth Championships last year where she was 2nd in the 100 (11.40) and third in the 200 (23.20).  Desiree Henry of Great Brittain (11.23) has significantly improved in the 100 the last two years. Ecuadorian Angela Tenorio (11.25A) was third in the World Youth Championships last year and second in the 200.
